How to get free Narcan

For anyone with opioids in the home, Narcan is available for FREE by mail through the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. NO doctor’s visit or prescription is required. It’s also available at many pharmacies across the state.

The Department recommends that anyone with opioids in the home should have Naloxone (Narcan) in the home. This medication is used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose, allowing an overdose victim to breathe normally. It is not addictive and cannot be abused.

The following link directs you to Oklahoma’s site for receiving free Naloxone. It also provides information on how to recognize an overdose.

Opioid Abuse Continues

The following information was provided to us by Cleveland County Director of Emergency Management, George Mauldin;

On April 6, 2022, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sent a letter to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies warning of a spike in fentanyl-related mass-overdose events. The letter details seven mass-overdose events in five states and Washington D.C.  within the past two months, which resulted in 58 overdoses and 29 deaths. In each of these events, the victims unknowingly ingested fentanyl. In six of the events, the victims ingested cocaine laced with fentanyl. In the seventh event, the victims ingested what they believed to be 30mg oxycodone pills, but which were fake prescription pills containing fentanyl.

Within the past month, there was a mass-overdose event in Norman during which 3 individuals overdosed after ingesting cocaine laced with fentanyl.

A mass-overdose event is defined as an event in which three or more overdoses occur at about the same time at the same location.

On September 27, 2021, the DEA issued a public safety alert, the first in six years that detailed a significant increase in counterfeit pills containing fentanyl or methamphetamine.

DEA laboratory analysis indicates the two out of five counterfeit pill containing fentanyl have a potentially lethal dose. The most common counterfeit pills are made to look like Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, Xanax and Adderall.

Masks Optional

Finally, some good news!!

We have been monitoring our COVID positivity rate for all of our clinics throughout this pandemic.  We have also been in contact with our health department officials.  For the past two months, especially for the past several weeks, the rate has been decreasing to the point that we now feel comfortable to make the MASK requirement OPTIONAL for our patients.  We still strongly recommend you take all the measures possible to protect yourself and others by wearing a mask when you go into any medical facility.  But it is no longer mandatory at our facilities for our patients.  This policy may change if circumstances mandate it.  We have masks available should you want one.  Our employees will be masked 100% of the times for the foreseeable future.

Government benefits for COVID testing and treatment ended today!

As of today March 22nd, 2022, the un-insured/under-insured benefits for COVID related testing and treatment have ended!

We will continue to provide all of these services for all at a discounted rate.  We will continue to provide the COVID vaccine free of charge to those without insurance.

Vaccination, early detection, and treatment remain most important to keep this virus under control.

****IMPORTANT***  Please Read***

If congress does not allow the release of additional funds for COVID testing and treatment, all funds set aside for un-insured and under-insured will go away by March 22nd, 2022 (in 5 days) and furthermore as of April 5th, the government will not pay for any vaccination administration either.  Please contact your legislature and let them know how you feel about this!

We are having to change our ways of charging for un-insured (and insured) until we have more clear directions from the government.
